Ensuring that shipments are cleared by CBP and PGAs is the responsibility of Trade Compliance. Moving the goods from the Pier is the responsibility of the transportation team. Coordinating customs, PGAs, Custom House Brokers, 3PLs, and drayage companies is a major challenge for BCOs/Importers.

90% of all import volume arrives by vessel. The Pier represents a huge black-hole where ocean shipments become invisible and costs magically appear. Under normal conditions, the costs associated with the pier and last-mile delivery amount to 10-20% of the ocean freight. When things go wrong, the costs can quickly balloon to equal or exceed the ocean freight charges. Managing the pier has been, and continues to be, a problem for BCOs. BCOs have been reliant on their customs brokers, drayage companies, and carriers for any hint of visibility at the pier.

If you do not have visibility and control over the ocean terminal you want to join Dan and Ned, for a virtual coffee, as we discuss the current state of Last Mile Pier to Door management.  Learn what new technology is available to allow the BCO to manage the pier more effectively, collaborate with stakeholders, and control costs.  Gain an understanding of how trade compliance and logistics teams can seamlessly collaborate to manage and control the activity at the pier and the last-mile delivery.

What you will learn:

  1. How close coordination between trade compliance and transportation streamlines visibility and execution at the pier.
  2. The importance of ocean terminal visibility and control for the BCO.
  3. How container visibility at the ocean terminal reduces or eliminates demurrage.
  4. How container delivery planning optimizes warehouse and delivery execution.
  5. The importance of ocean terminal SKU level visibility to optimize inventory optimization.
  6. Why ocean terminal visibility is essential for internal collaboration.

Why Transportation Visibility is a Blindspot for Chief Supply Chain Officers

Given the enormous amount of data that is gathered across all actors in the supply chain, one would think that end-to-end visibility and the resulting analysis capabilities should be easy to address. But they aren’t.
